Dew Drop Pond

Garden at St. Catherine

Garden at St. Catherine

Carondelet Center is surrounded by several acres of wooded walking paths, expansive lawns, and the Dew Drop. Well-groomed perennial and annual gardens, along with English and shade gardens are pocketed around the College of St. Catherine campus. Set among verdant knolls on the grounds of Carondelet Center, a 77-foot diameter replica of the labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral in France offers walking meditation. Scenic Mississippi River walking and biking paths, part of the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway bike and foot trail that entwines the Twin Cities urban landscape, are accessible less than 1.0 mile from Carondelet Center.

The English Garden
Located just west of Whitby Hall, the English Garden was planted in the mid-1920s and tended for many years by Sister Alice Irene Freiberg, a mathematics professor. It was renovated in the 1980s, when a sculpture of St. Francis by Professor Emeritus of Art Peter Lupori also was added. The statue and garden renovation are the gift of Patrick and Alice Schreiber Rogers.

The Margaret Mary McGuire Memorial Rose Garden
The Margaret Mary McGuire Memorial Rose Garden was commissioned in 2004 by Kathryn McGuire Ryder '36. Located west of Coeur de Catherine, this garden includes Rosa 'St.Catherine' a rose honoring St.Catherine's Centennial in 2005.
